      <image:title>Blog - The plight of refugees</image:title>
<image:caption>Although we are struggling to comprehend the vision streamed from Ukrainian towns and border areas with invading Russian military forces, the plight of refugees is not a new one. The UNHCR estimated that by 2021, 82.4 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced due to persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations or events seriously disturbing public order. One of the most vulnerable groups fleeing Ukraine is unaccompanied children. Children without a primary caregiver are at a heightened risk of violence, abuse and exploitation. When these children are moved across borders, the risks are multiplied. The risk of trafficking also soars in emergencies. We know that displaced persons are vulnerable to human trafficking. Human trafficking can happen to anyone but some people are more vulnerable than others. Significant risk factors include displacement (such as is happening in Ukraine), recent migration or relocation, substance use, mental health concerns, involvement with the child welfare system and being a runaway or homeless youth. Often, traffickers identify and leverage their victims’ vulnerabilities in order to create dependency.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Beyond thinking differently: Introducing Action Research Centre</image:title>
<image:caption>The task of social transformation is daunting. It requires multi-disciplinary approaches to arrive at outcomes that would resonate with the contextual experiences in the community. Traditionally, several individuals have drawn a dichotomy between evidence-based research and advocacy as plausible approaches to social change. On the one hand, they relegate the role of advocacy to not-for-profit organisations, on the other hand, they reduce the task of producing evidence-based research to academics in the universities. Action Research Centre bridges this gap. We engage in both evidence-based research as well as advocacy through partnerships. We are convinced that the research that is worth doing is that which takes the community experience as a starting point to reflect critically with the intention to catalyse social change. We use the tools of critical reflection, advocacy, community awareness and policy dialogue to create strategic intervention so as to reduce the level and impacts of family and domestic violence, reduce the risk of homelessness, and build a resilient and inclusive community.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - What do we know about Domestic Violence in Australia?</image:title>
<image:caption>This event is a public sharing of the preliminary findings of the research project of Action Research Centre Ltd. The research project that would be shared is titled Domestic Violence in Australia: What is missing and what do we need to know? The project that would be discussed is a Scoping literature review that focuses on understanding the current state of research on domestic violence in Australia, the existing knowledge gaps and identifying areas for further research. After five months of rigorous research engagement comprising data collection and analysis, our team is pleased to share the preliminary findings with the general public. Join us for an afternoon of stimulating conversations and interaction on the current state of research on domestic violence in Australia. During my settlement journey in Australia, I came across a lot of challenges with less social support which I found really challenging. This led me to explore more about mental health and support services in Australia. My experience opened up new avenues for me to venture into and working with Action Research Centre Ltd. This platform gave me a voice, where I could work collaboratively with great people and get heard as a CALD community member. Working with Action Research Centre Ltd has helped me to identify the potential and scope of mental health and related issues based on my medical background, experiences and skills. This has added a new dimension to my thinking process and I am now in a position to add greater values to the community while practicing my acquired skill</image:caption>
